How do you know if that in-vehicle battery is degraded and should be replaced?
There was no known technology that could accurately predict battery degradation in-vehicle conditions with a simple operation in a few minutes.
-
Unfortunately, currently available products only measure voltage, which is insufficient to know the degree of degradation or the cruising range. The inside of the vehicle is pretty noisy, and the resolution of the sensors inside is low.
-
predicts the battery capacity Q [Ah] from the information via OBD2 from DC sensors in the battery blocks.
-
Notably, our prototype achieves an accuracy of over 90% by using our own measurement recipes and analysis methods.
-
-
If the degree of degradation can be estimated without removing the battery from the vehicle, it can be used in numerous situations.
-
For instance, battery health checks at new and used car dealerships, battery value assessments in the used car trade, and battery condition of rented/leased vehicles will be possible.

-
-
As for On-road diagnostics, there is United Nations Global Technical Regulation on In-vehicle Battery Durability for Electrified Vehicles..

Endurance performance
The following performance is maintained over the specified number of years/mileage (whichever has been reached).
Battery capacity (kWh)
5 years or 100,000km:80% of Q [Ah] when new.
8 years or 160,000km:70% of Q [Ah] when new.
